About Us

Jim & Jeannie Lalumondiere

Byrnesville, Missouri.

Jim and I began our dream in 1975 when we purchased the old Byrnesville Mill near House Springs. It was our desire to save the building; create home; raise our four children; and enjoy retirement here along the lazy Big River that flows beneath our house. This magnificent building was saved, the children raised in their life long home and now we enjoy the fruits of our labor as we sit and watch the river flow past. It is our great pleasure to share the beauty of our surroundings with others.

About The Lalumondiere

Along the Big River in Jefferson County, not far from St. Louis, sits a secret delight.  Traveling across the bridge, in the town of Byrnesville, your eye is drawn upriver to a scenic dam & waterfall where you catch a glimpse of flowers hanging from a 3-story structure presiding over the river's edge.  You have discovered the historic Byrnesville Mill.

As you make your way through the open breezeway, you feel your senses awaken to the sound of rolling and tumbling water, a perfect backdrop to the sight of multi-level patios, fish ponds, and flower gardens.

Described as intimate, nostalgic, unpretentious, and with eclectic charm, the mill home itself, as well as its transformation into a one-of-a-kind venue for events & weddings, are some of Jim and Jeannie Lalumondiere's proudest achievements, and reasonably so.

Qualities of love and ingenuity, the belief in preservation, and an abiding respect for nature have transformed the Byrnesville Mill into what is today known as.....The Lalumondiere.

History

Once a grist mill owned by Patrick Byrne, the Byrnesville mill was the center of commerce for the young town of Byrnesville, Mo., from the mid-1800s and into the 20th century. The town was also home to a grocer, dance hall, blacksmith, post office, and several taverns, but it was the mill that put it on the map and drew farmers and families together.

In 1974, the Lalumondieres rescued the mill from decades of neglect.  After securing the foundation, they blended their time raising children with the ongoing creation of their beautiful mill home and gardens.

As the years have progressed, their desire to share their special spot with others has brought about the creation of The Lalumondiere Mill & Rivergardens, an outdoor venue and B&B Homestay site now offered to the public.

It is an opportunity for others to create memories of their own - of weddings and laughter, music and dancing, family reunions, or corporate meetings away from the boardroom.  This wonderful landscape of opportunity can be shaped to fit your own special needs or desires.
