About Us

Jim & Jeannie Lalumondiere

Byrnesville, Missouri.

Jim and I began our dream of a lifetime some 49 years ago when we purchased the old Byrnesville Mill near House Springs. It was our desire to save the building; create home; raise our four children; and enjoy retirement here along the lazy Big River that flows beneath our house. This magnificent building was saved, the children raised in their life long home and now we enjoy the fruits of our labor as we sit and watch the lazy river flow past. It is our great pleasure to share the beauty of our surroundings with others.

About The Lalumondiere

Along the Big River in Jefferson County, not far from St. Louis, sits a secret delight.  Traveling across the bridge, in the town of Byrnesville, your eye is drawn upriver to a scenic dam & waterfall where you catch a glimpse of flowers hanging from a 3 story structure presiding over the rivers' edge.  You have discovered the historic Byrnesville Mill.

As you wend you way through the open breezeway you feel your senses awaken to the sound of rolling and tumbling water, a perfect backdrop to the sight of multi-level patios, fish ponds, and flower gardens.

Described as intimate, nostalgic, unpretentious, and with eclectic charm, the mill home itself - as well as it's transformation to a one-of-a-kind venue for events & weddings - are some of Jim and Jeannie Lalumondiere's proudest achievements, and reasonably so.

Qualities of love and ingenuity, the belief in preservation and an abiding respect for nature have transformed the Byrnesville Mill into what is today knows as.....The Lalumondiere.

History

Once a grist mill owned by Patrick Byrne, the Byrnesville mill was the center of commerce for the young town of Byrnesville, Mo. from the mid 1800's and into the 20th century.  The town was also home to a grocer, dance hall, blacksmith, post office and several taverns, but it was the mill that put it on the map and drew farmers and families together.

In 1974 the Lalumondiere's rescued the mill from decades of neglect.  After securing the foundation, they blended their time raising children with the ongoing creation of their beautiful mill home and gardens.

As the years have progressed, their desire to share their special spot with others has brought about the creation of The Lalumondiere Mill & Rivergardens, an outdoor venue and B&B Homestay site now offered to the public.

It is an opportunity for others to create memories of their own - of weddings and laughter, music and dancing,
family reunions, or corporate meetings away from the boardroom.  This wonderful landscape of opportunity can be shaped to fit your own special needs or desires.

Photo Sessions

The Lalumondiere is primarily our home.  We receive many requests for personal photos to be done on our property.

Our policy going forward is $75 per hour/2 hours minimum by appointment only.

Photos are allowed on the bridge and in the grove across river from our home.  No photos allowed around the house proper or our patios.

If you’re looking for the perfect spot for your wedding day look no further. The Lalumondiere Mill & Rivergardens is perhaps the most beautiful place I have ever stepped foot on. We married in October, which can be hit or miss but I had absolutely no qualms or reservations knowing someone like Jeannie was there to make sure my day was nothing short of perfect. The views alone were breathtaking. My guests would not stop gushing over how beautiful everything was from the river to the ceremony space , to the beautiful tress and the house itself. My dad even based his speech around the venue and how perfect it was. You won’t find a venue that is more accommodating to your vision and offers immense flexibility to make your vision a reality. Jim and Jeannie were as much apart of our big day as anything else. We planned everything ourselves and I couldn’t be more grateful to work with Jeannie who was ever patient and kind. These two were extremely helpful and easy to work with thus, providing the best experience I could ask for. If I could do it all again I would chose this place every time.

This is a wedding venue to remember. Jim and Jeannie have created such a one-of-a-kind, whimsical place at The Lalumondiere that my guests fell in love with it, as we did. From the unique treasures Jim has found to decorate the property with, to the beautiful motif Jeannie has used to decorate it, you really feel like you're somewhere else besides Missouri. The river as the back drop lends tranquility to the wedding ceremony & reception and is a beautiful back drop for pictures. Our wedding on 4/30/11 was amazing and we know The Lalumondiere played a huge part in that.

The Lalumondiere is the perfect venue for a wedding!

My husband and I got married here in May and loved it. Everything about the venue is unique and we fell in love with it, along with the owners on our first tour. We could tell they cared about all the couples they have get married there and were very helpful with recommending vendors that have been there before.

The venue has so many amazing spots, from the rooms upstairs for first looks with parents, to the bridge overlooking the mill, to the metal bird cage structure we had our ceremony under, we were blown away with how magical the space was. We had the perfect weather for an outdoor wedding and couldn’t have asked for a better venue!

We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a unique outdoor space for your wedding!!!!

It was the most beautiful venue I have ever seen. It is serene with a zen feel to it. The lush gardens, wrought iron, and the sound of the waterfall in the river below are something found in a storybook setting.
Not to mention the wonderful host & hostess, the Lalumondieres. They are warm and friendly and so accommodating to all your needs.

Lalumondiere was the most beautiful venue!! It’s Shangri-La!! When I was touring venues for my daughter’s wedding I knew if I ever got married again this was going to be where I was going to have my wedding. It was the perfect place for an outdoor wedding! No decoration is needed bc the location is so picturesque!! So many compliments from our guests about the venue. Jeanie was so wonderful to work with and so patient!! I wasn’t a bridezilla but was stressed w trying to do everything myself. The day started perfect, and ended perfect w us dancing under the stars and twinkling garden lights after the guests all left. The perfect place to start the new chapter in our lives

We had our wedding and wedding reception here on May 25, 2013 and we couldn't have picked a better place! I was mostly in contact with Jeannie throughout my planning process and she was wonderful! Any question or concern I called or emailed her about was met with a prompt response.

On the day of our wedding we had a downpour until about an hour before the ceremony, but we never had to worry for even a minute. Jeannie and Jim went right to work calming our nerves and keeping an eye on the radar. When the rain finally let up they rushed to dry off tables and chairs and set up all of our decorations so we could relax and prepare for our big day. I would like to add that they have a friend named Kara that you can hire as a day-of coordinator... Do it! She is wonderful as well!!

Jeannie and Jim conducted their business with us, as I am sure they do with all of their guests, like we were old friends. They laugh with you and hug and handle everything on such a personal level that it makes your event that much more special. You cant find that kind of service anywhere else. Working with Jeannie and Jim made our wedding stress-free and fun!

On top of all that, our guests were in absolute awe of this place! They had more fun wandering around taking in the sights and snapping hundreds of pictures than they did on the dance floor! I have yet to recieve my professional photos, but the ones my guests took were beautiful! If you are interested in an outdoor wedding, this is the place to go! I am sure everyone will have just as much of a rewarding experience here as we did!

Lalumondiere Mill & Rivergardens is magic. I am a Los Angeles native who moved to Missouri to marry my Missouri native and have seen a lot of beautiful places; Lalumondiere is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and experienced and was the most perfect venue for my wedding. Jeannie and Jim, the venue owners and operators are a joy to work with and take great pride in the space, inside and out. Almost 50 years ago, they saved the mill from ruin and it is now a true gem. If you're getting married, and love the idea of an outdoor, rustic dream wedding, look no further than Lalumondiere. I didn't, and cannot be more grateful. Thank you Jeannie & Jim for providing the most amazing space for the most magical day of my life!!!
